OwnerShift Launches Podcast on the Quiet Work-Life Crisis of Restaurants

by / ⠀Podcast / December 10, 2025

When people sit down and eat at a restaurant, they often assume that the people who work there are confident and comfortable in their positions, especially if they are in managerial or CEO roles. However, for many business owners, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Andrew Scott, the owner of Ottawa-based consulting firm Ownership Training, has described independent restaurant owners as “the most overworked, underpaid demographic in food service.”

As someone who works alongside the food industry and knows the intricacies of the business, Scott has long wanted to tackle the discrepancy that restaurant owners face. His new podcast, the Restaurant Growth Accelerator, does just that.

Addressing the Blind Spots in the Industry

Most restaurant content people see and interact with on social media revolves around chefs, wait staff, and the people who manage the business. Andrew Scott’s approach is different.

“Restaurant owners need real talk, not feel-good content that doesn’t move their numbers,” Scott says.

The Restaurant Growth Accelerator podcast offers OwnerShift the chance to reach owners during commutes or prep time, often when most are too busy to read lengthy industry reports. A report from Edison Research indicates that 42% of Americans listen to podcasts monthly, which makes Scott’s podcast a perfect avenue for people to learn and listen.

How Andrew Scott Went from Struggler to Consultant

Andrew Scott isn’t a consultant who’s never worked a double shift. He grew his franchise, Pita Pit, from one location in 2007 to four in 2016. While the journey has never been smooth, he’s always been forthcoming about how hard he’s worked and barely broke even in the process. This makes Scott’s podcast and the things he talks about genuine.

“Most restaurant owners work 60+ hours per week and barely make any money and end up sacrificing their family life,” Scott shares. “That was me for many years.”

With episodes that address questions such as “How do I reduce my hours?” and “How do I get my food costs down?” Scott addresses issues that plague restaurant owners rather than offering generic scaling advice that typically doesn’t resonate with listeners.

A Shift Toward More Accessible Content

While many would believe that information presented in websites, classes, and books would be more accessible to the ordinary person, Andrew Scott’s podcast launch represents a shift toward more accessible content delivery. With the Restaurant Growth Accelerator podcast, Scott offers free content to help build trust with potential clients before asking owners to invest in his services.

While the company aims to create change in the landscape of the industry, Scott’s podcast tackles the challenging issues that proliferate within the business internally as well as externally, all by offering business owners the chance to learn about what might be detrimental to their business, as well as solutions to common problems.

The Restaurant Growth Accelerator podcast is available on major streaming platforms. It offers what Scott calls “real talk” for business owners who want their time honored with facts, not fluff.
