The Government of India has not increased the retirement age of central government employees to 62. A post claiming that the Union Cabinet approved raising the retirement age to 62 is going viral on social media. However, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has clarified that this claim is false.
The government confirmed in the Lok Sabha in August 2023 that there is no proposal under consideration to change the retirement age. Union Minister Jitendra Singh stated this in reply to a question on August 9, 2023. The PIB also reviewed press releases regarding Union Cabinet meetings but found no information related to discussions on the retirement age.
The most recent Cabinet meeting on November 6, 2024, focused on the “PM Vidyalakshmi” scheme for supporting meritorious students.
