December Social Security payment schedule changes

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced a change in the payment schedule for December that will impact millions of American retirees who depend on their Social Security benefits. This adjustment is necessary to ensure beneficiaries receive their funds on time, despite the holiday schedule. In December, the payment dates for Social Security will be adjusted as follows: Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries will receive their payment on the first day of the month. Social Security checks will be issued on the third day of the month. Old Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance payments are scheduled based on the beneficiary’s date of birth. The first group, born between the 1st and the 10th of any month, will receive payments on the second Wednesday. The second group, born between the 11th and the 20th, will receive payments on the third Wednesday. The third group, born between the 21st and the 31st, will receive payments on the fourth Wednesday. Due to the national holiday on December 25th, those who would typically receive their payment on this date will receive it a day earlier, on December 24th, to avoid any delays.

December Social Security payment adjustments

The amount each beneficiary receives will vary depending on the category of their benefits. Retirement Insurance recipients will receive approximately $1,876. Survivors Insurance recipients will receive approximately $1,508. Disability Insurance recipients will receive approximately $1,404. For those not yet receiving Social Security benefits, the requirements for initiating various programs are as follows: Retirement Insurance requires at least 10 years of contributions and a minimum age of 62. Survivors Insurance is based on the contributions of the deceased worker and the age of the dependent. Disability Insurance requires having contributed during 5 of the last 10 years and possessing a medical declaration of disability or blindness. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is for individuals with a monthly income less than $1,971 and net worth less than $2,000. This announcement aims to keep all beneficiaries informed and ensure their funds are received promptly during the holiday season.
