Berkshire Hathaway shareholders to gather in Omaha

by / ⠀News / May 1, 2025

Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway is gearing up for its annual shareholder meeting on May 3 in Omaha, Nebraska. Investors are eager to hear updates on the company’s investment portfolio and gain insights into Buffett’s strategies. SEC filings show that Berkshire made stock purchases of about $93.5 million in Occidental Petroleum earlier this year and invested around $2.7 billion in five Japanese trading houses.

However, due to high stock valuations, it’s unlikely that Buffett made any major stock acquisitions. Instead, Buffett is expected to have added more to Berkshire’s substantial holdings of Treasury bills. At the end of the fourth quarter, the company held approximately $300.9 billion in Treasury bills and $33.3 billion in cash.

With an average yield of about 4.3% on six-month Treasury bills during the first quarter, Berkshire could generate around $3.2 billion per quarter from existing holdings.

Shareholder meeting insights with Buffett

While Berkshire’s investment scale and requirements are unique, individual investors can still find value in smaller companies and take advantage of broader market opportunities.

Buffett has recently focused on stocks with market caps ranging from $15 billion to $50 billion, suggesting there are attractive prospects beyond the most prominent companies. Buffett acknowledges the limited options available for Berkshire due to its size but emphasizes the ongoing goal of owning good businesses. Smaller investors have a wider range of potential investments, including mid-cap and small-cap stocks, as well as index funds focused on these segments.

As always, investors should conduct their own research before making any investment decisions. While Berkshire Hathaway remains a cornerstone of value investing, opportunities exist for those willing to explore beyond the company’s massive portfolio. The upcoming shareholder meeting will provide a platform for investors to ask Buffett questions about his investment moves and gain further insights into his strategies.
