Biden passes torch to Harris at DNC

President Joe Biden delivered an emotional speech on the first night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

The crowd chanted “Thank you, Joe!” as Biden fought back tears, knowing they were thanking him not just for his lifetime of public service, but also for not running again. Biden, 81, found himself speaking on Monday night, usually reserved for the party’s past stars, instead of Thursday night as the presidential nominee.

He barely alluded to his decision to step aside under pressure from fellow Democrats worried about his struggles as the oldest president. In his nearly hour-long speech, Biden touted his accomplishments, attacked Donald Trump, and passed the baton to Kamala Harris. “America, I love you.
