Everyday Dose Functional Coffee Lands in 1,500 Target Stores Nationwide as Mushroom Coffee Market Hits Critical Mass

by / ⠀Featured / December 31, 2025

Everyday Dose, an Austin-based functional coffee brand, has launched in 1,500 Target stores across the US, marking a significant retail milestone and reflecting broader growth in the mushroom and functional coffee markets. The company, founded in 2020, initially gained momentum through direct-to-consumer (DTC) sales, achieving a 60% repeat purchase rate that helped persuade Target to launch nationally without a pilot phase.

The brand sets itself apart by providing potent doses of ingredients such as Lion’s Mane, Chaga mushrooms, L-theanine, and collagen, unlike competitors that often use minimal active ingredients. Each batch is lab-tested, emphasizing their commitment to quality. This is Target’s most ambitious functional coffee launch so far, and it hints at something bigger.

Everyday Dose Functional Coffee

The functional coffee market is expected to reach $7.87 billion by 2030, while the broader functional beverage market could reach $353.4 billion, reflecting strong consumer interest, especially among millennials and Gen Z. The category is projected to grow at an 11.84% compound annual growth rate, encouraging mainstream retailers to allocate more shelf space to the category.

The Retail Push Nobody Saw Coming

Founded in 2020 in Jack Klauber’s father’s garage, Everyday Dose spent its initial four years cultivating direct-to-consumer sales before expanding to major retailers. This approach was successful, achieving a 60% repeat purchase rate, significantly higher than the industry average for consumables, giving Target the confidence to roll out the brand nationwide instead of testing in limited markets first.

“We’ve been working toward this for the past year because the market really needed a functional coffee option with actual efficacy behind the claims,” Savage said in an interview. “This isn’t just another product launch; it’s our answer to what we’ve been hearing from customers who are tired of coffee that wrecks their nervous system.”

According to Grand View Research data, the broader functional beverages market is growing at 7.1% annually. It is projected to reach $353.4 billion by 2030, with North America holding the largest market share at 39.6%.

Target clearly considers functional coffee a growth category worth investing in, especially as wellness-focused Millennials and Gen Z consumers increasingly prioritize functional benefits in their daily routines.

Most mushroom coffee brands that launched during the 2020-2022 wellness boom either shifted away from real coffee or used barely detectable amounts of functional ingredients. Everyday Dose took a different approach, focusing on what they call “efficacious doses,” enough of each ingredient actually to produce the claimed benefits.

What Makes This Launch Different

The company’s formula includes low-acid, lower-caffeine coffee (about 45mg per serving, roughly one-third of a standard cup), combined with organic Lion’s Mane and Chaga mushrooms, L-theanine, and grass-fed collagen. Each batch undergoes lab testing, which is especially important in an industry where ingredient quality can vary greatly, and claims often exceed actual results.

Target’s vetting process for functional products has become more stringent over the past year. The retailer now demands thorough documentation of ingredient sourcing, third-party lab testing, and quality control protocols before approving brands for nationwide distribution. For Everyday Dose, that thoroughness worked in their favor.

“The focus has always been on helping people truly feel the benefits in their daily ritual,” Savage explained. “We’re not cutting corners on ingredient quality to hit a price point.”

The product retails for around $40 for a 30-serving container, positioning it as premium but not luxury-tier compared to other functional coffee options.

Industry analysts have been closely watching the functional coffee space. Research from Future Market Insights indicates that brands focusing on nootropic and gut-health-enhancing formulations are seeing the fastest adoption rates, with consumers increasingly willing to pay premium prices for products that deliver measurable benefits. The market for probiotic beverages now comprises 32% of the functional beverage category.

The launch of Everyday Dose is part of a broader shift in Target’s wellness strategy, signaling that functional coffee may now be mainstream. Whether Everyday Dose can sustain its high retail repeat rate will be a key indicator of long-term success.

The DTC to Retail Playbook

Everyday Dose’s route to reaching Target shelves follows a pattern increasingly common in the CPG industry. First, they build proof of concept with direct-to-consumer sales, then showcase strong retention metrics, and finally leverage that data to form retail partnerships. While this isn’t a revolutionary strategy, it is more effective than launching directly into retail.

This expansion strategy of proving success through DTC before hitting retail has positioned Everyday Dose to reach a much broader market. The company had reached about 3% of coffee drinkers nationwide through its DTC channel before the Target deal. With this retail expansion, they project they could capture 15% of the market, a significant jump that puts them in direct competition with more established functional coffee brands.

However, challenges persist in maintaining quality and margins as we scale up.

Concerns also exist regarding whether a quality-focused strategy can be profitably expanded at retail price points. Testing each batch in a lab incurs higher costs than spot-checking. Sourcing premium ingredients is more expensive than opting for commodity-grade alternatives.

Additionally, Target’s share further reduces margins.

However, Savage seems unconcerned. “The organizations that recognize quality now will have the advantage when functional coffee becomes mainstream,” he added. “We’re betting consumers can tell the difference.”

Market Context and Competition

The functional coffee category remains relatively small compared to the overall coffee market, but it is growing faster than traditional coffee. Market research shows the global functional coffee market reached $4.5 billion in 2024, with North America accounting for 69.27% of the market share.

What’s driving the growth? According to industry analysis, 44% of US consumers actively seek functional beverages for daily use, and the trend toward gut health and mental wellness remains strong. The pandemic accelerated interest in immune support and stress management, and those consumer priorities have remained even as COVID-19 concerns have faded.

Everyday Dose will face competition from well-established brands like Four Sigmatic and newer players with larger budgets. However, the partnership with Target provides them with distribution reach that many competitors lack, particularly in brick-and-mortar retail, where product discovery remains vital despite the rise of digital channels and e-commerce.

The company’s repeat purchase rate is a key metric to monitor. If customers who discover Everyday Dose on Target shelves return at the same rate as DTC customers, retail expansion is likely to speed up. If repeat rates decline, it may indicate that the product appeals more to wellness-focused consumers who actively seek it out rather than casual Target shoppers picking up something new.

By cultivating an ardent following and essential relationship with consumers well before it hit retail shelves, Everyday Dose has proven capable of cutting through the noise and clutter of the marketplace, leaving a lasting impact.

Now, having been brought to the shelves of a store as massive and with as broad a reach as Target, the Austin-based functional coffee brand stands to grow even further. Consumers are hungry for healthy, sustainable products, and Everyday Dose has demonstrated its commitment to meeting the needs of this newer, younger segment.
