Florida man charged for threatening Biden

Jason Patrick Alday, a 39-year-old Florida man, allegedly threatened to kill President Joe Biden and Secret Service agents, according to court documents. Alday has been on the Secret Service’s radar since late June when he allegedly told an intake officer at a mental health facility that he wanted to kill the president. Secret Service agents questioned Alday at his parents’ home on July 1. He denied making any threats but was visibly agitated. However, the court documents reveal that on June 30, Alday allegedly posted on social media, “Not doing too good at all. Should I finish him off?” under the username @Jman86628004. On July 11, he reportedly posted, “I’ll kill Joe Biden today,” two days before former President Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt in western Pennsylvania. Alday allegedly taunted the Secret Service agent who questioned him in a series of racist tweets.

Florida man faces federal charges

Alday was arrested on Monday by the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force and the Secret Service. He was charged in federal court with sending threatening communications, making threats against the president, and threats against federal officials. Alday’s mother, Elizabeth, testified that her son suffers from schizoaffective disorder, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and autism. She explained that he relies on her for his daily medication, comprising mood stabilizers, antidepressants, and antipsychotic drugs. U.S. Magistrate Judge Charles A. Stampelos ordered Alday to be confined in a corrections facility under the attorney general’s supervision. Prosecutors contended that even under restrictive home conditions, Alday posed a threat. Judge Stampelos concluded that Alday represents “somewhat of a danger” to the community, citing his consistent history of competency issues and legal violations over the past two years. Alday was appointed a federal public defender, but his trial date has not yet been set.
