In the courtroom, Denver personal injury lawyer Keith Fuicelli has built a reputation for fearlessness and empathy – a fierce advocate in trial, and a compassionate ally to those he represents. Both aspects of Fuicelli’s courtroom persona are rooted in his life experiences because Fuicelli isn’t just a successful attorney.
He’s also the survivor of a life-altering accident who emerged from tragedy with a deep sense of purpose. In the years since 2007, that sense of purpose has taken Fuicelli from his near-death in City Park to securing million-dollar verdicts in court for other survivors.
The Turning Point
Fuicelli always knew he wanted to be a lawyer, and right after law school, he took a position as a trial attorney at the Jefferson County DA’s office. But everything changed in 2007, when he was struck by a car traveling 45 miles per hour while jogging around City Park. He was resuscitated at the scene and spent time on life support. That life-threatening experience gave him a new perspective — and ultimately led him to found Fuicelli & Lee in 2008, with a mission to advocate for others facing life-altering injuries.
“The next thing I remember was waking up in Craig Hospital a month later.” Fuicelli recalls, reflecting on that time. “This experience fundamentally changed how I approach my work as a personal injury attorney. Having personally endured the vulnerability, fear, and uncertainty that follow a serious injury, I can genuinely understand what my clients are going through in a way most attorneys simply cannot. I know firsthand the frustration of recovery, the worry about providing for your family, and the challenges of rebuilding your life.”
Fuicelli describes his experience working with his clients as founded in empathy.
“When they tell me about their struggles,” he says, “I’m not just sympathizing – I’m truly empathizing from a place of shared experience.”
His driving passion to provide compassionate representation during what, for many, is the most difficult time in their lives led him to begin Fuicelli & Lee Injury Lawyers.
Against the Current
Because of this personal identification with his clients’ struggles, Fuicelli frequently takes cases to court, choosing litigation over easy settlements to battle for better client outcomes.
This bucking against the standard current in personal injury advocacy, where many attorneys advise their clients to settle outside of court, has won Fuicelli respect in his field. He has been selected as a Colorado Super Lawyer every year since 2012, an honor accorded to only the state’s top five percent of attorneys.
Fuicelli is also a member of the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum. He has received a Lifetime Achievement Membership to America’s Top 100 Attorneys following multiple million-dollar jury verdict awards for his clients, including two such verdicts in 2019 and another in 2022. Given his acquaintance with traumatic brain injury, Fuicelli is especially proud of his work as a board member for the Brain Injury Alliance of Colorado.
A Personal Approach to Law
Nothing in Fuicelli’s approach to advocacy is impersonal.
“While it might sound cliché,” he remarks, “we truly do strive to treat every single one of our clients as we would our family members. This isn’t just a marketing slogan for us. It’s the fundamental principle that guides everything we do at Fuicelli & Lee.”
Fuicelli notes that the same philosophy extends to the firm’s staff; they are family, too.
Having personally experienced a traumatic injury, Fuicelli believes that his clients deserve personal, compassionate, and dedicated representation. That conviction brings him to the office each day and drives him to carry cases throughout the courtroom.
