Ratan Tata allocates wealth in detailed will

Ratan Tata, the former chairman of Tata Sons, left a significant portion of his ₹3,800 crore estate to charitable foundations in his will. The will, dated February 23, 2022, also includes provisions for his employees, friends, and pets. One-third of Tata’s financial properties, estimated at ₹800 crore, will go to his former Tata Group colleague Mohini M Dutta. His half-sisters, Shireen and Deanna Jejeebhoy, will inherit an equal share of these assets. Tata’s Juhu bungalow has been divided between his brother Jimmy Tata and other relatives, including Simone Tata and Noel Tata. His Alibaug property has been left to close friend Mehli Mistry. Tata also made provisions for his staff in his will. He allocated over ₹3 crore to his employees, including ₹15 lakh for long-serving domestic workers and ₹1 lakh for part-time helpers and car cleaners. His longtime cook Rajan Shaw will receive a little over ₹1 crore, including a loan waiver.

Ratan Tata’s thoughtful wealth distribution

His butler Subbaiah Konar will get ₹66 lakh, and his secretary Delnaz Gilder has been left ₹10 lakh. Tata directed that his clothes should be donated to NGOs to be distributed among the underprivileged. He also waived off loans given to his executive assistant, neighbor, and driver. As an animal lover, Tata set aside ₹12 lakh for the care of his German Shepherd, Tito. The dog will remain under the care of his cook, with ₹30,000 disbursed every quarter for its upkeep. Tata’s foreign assets, worth around ₹40 crore, include land parcels in Seychelles, investments in companies, and bank accounts. His will also lists luxury watches, silver articles, and select jewelry. The will, which includes four codicils, is currently undergoing probate in the Bombay High Court.
