The Social Security Administration (SSA) has officially released the 2026 Retirement, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (RSDI) payment dates. For those receiving these benefits, staying informed about when your payments will arrive is essential. Navigating the payment schedule can seem daunting, but we’ve simplified it in a straightforward format.
Here’s what you need to know:
Payments are based on your birth date. If you were born on the 1st to the 10th, you will be paid on the second Wednesday of each month. If you were born on the 11th to the 20th, you will be paid on the third Wednesday.
If you were born between the 21st and 31st, you will be paid on the fourth Wednesday. For example, in January 2026, payments will be made on January 14 for birthdays between the 1st and 10th, January 21 for birthdays between the 11th and 20th, and January 28 for birthdays between the 21st and 31st. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) follows a separate schedule and is usually paid on the first of each month.
If the 1st falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment is made on the previous business day. RSDI refers to three types of benefits: retirement benefits for individuals who have worked and paid into Social Security, typically starting at age 62; survivor benefits paid to family members of deceased workers; and disability insurance benefits for individuals with qualifying disabilities who cannot work. As of 2024, more than 66 million Americans receive monthly Social Security benefits, which is expected to grow by 2026.
