The Social Security Administration has confirmed major changes to upcoming Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments in 2025. Some months will have double payments, while others will have no deposits at all. SSI is usually paid on the first of each month.
However, when that date falls on a weekend or a federal holiday, payments are sent on the last business day of the previous month. This prevents payment delays. Here are the scheduled payment dates for May 2025:
May 1 (Thursday): Standard May SSI payment
May 30 (Friday): Advance payment for June (since June 1 falls on a Sunday)
As June’s payment is issued at the end of May, there will be no SSI deposit in June.
If you receive a double payment, note that it is meant for the following month and is not a bonus or overpayment. According to the SSA, if you receive both SSI and Social Security benefits and began receiving Social Security before May 1997, you may receive up to three deposits in May:
SSI payment for May
Social Security payment
Early SSI payment for June
Therefore, in May, you could receive two SSI payments and one Social Security payment.
Ssi schedule changes clarified for 2025
Besides May, other months with double payments include:
August 2025: August SSI payment and Early SSI payment for September (since Sept. 1 is a Monday)
October 2025: October SSI payment and Early SSI payment for November (since Nov. 1 is a Saturday)
December 2025: December SSI payment and Early payment for January 2026.
These double payments mean there will be no SSI deposits in September, November, and January 2026, respectively. To avoid being caught off guard, note the payment dates for the remaining months of 2025:
May 1: May SSI
May 30: June SSI
July 1: July SSI
August 1: August SSI
August 29: September SSI
October 1: October SSI
October 31: November SSI
December 1: December SSI
December 31: January 2026 SSI
Understanding the 2025 SSI payment schedule might seem confusing initially. However, understanding why some months might have double payments while others have none will clarify things.
SSI beneficiaries and retirees should take note of this calendar schedule to avoid financial surprises. Regularly checking bank statements and staying informed about scheduled payments will ensure good financial management.
