Birthday Cake in a Bottle: 5-hour Energy’s New Confetti Craze Flavor

by / ⠀Health & Fitness / August 20, 2025
While sodas and coffee can provide a quick energy boost, many are high in calories and sugars. 5-hour Energy, an energy shot in a 2-oz bottle, is a sugar-free, on-the-go alternative to these beverages. Founded in 2004 by CEO Manoj Bhargava, 5-hour Energy has been an industry disruptor—the company pioneered the energy shot subsector. In recent years, 5-hour Energy has furthered its commitment to product innovation, creating a series of new and delicious flavors, like Spicy Cinco de Mango and Cotton Candy. Now, the brand invites consumers to “have their cake and drink it too” with their latest flavor: Confetti Craze.

The Sweet, Comforting Flavor of Birthday Cake

5-hour Energy’s new Confetti Craze is inspired by birthday cake flavor, a sweet and buttery vanilla flavor reminiscent of homemade birthday cakes from childhood. A quick walk through any grocery store in 2025 is likely to reveal dozens of birthday-cake-flavored products, from protein bars and granolas to cookies and ice creams. Birthday cake is also a popular scent in products like lotions and candles—we really can’t get enough of it. Foods with birthday cake flavor typically include ingredients like almond extract, buttermilk, and cream cheese to replicate that nostalgic, comforting taste of buttery cake and sugary frosting. While the birthday cake flavor profile is a modern trend, its origins date back to post-WWII, when food manufacturers began developing boxed cake mixes. For generations of Americans, cakes made from these boxed mixes were a welcome, sweet presence at celebrations of every kind. Home bakers realized they could jazz up the mixes with additions like candy and colorful sprinkles. Putting rainbow sprinkles in the batter of vanilla cake created fun pops of color against the milky white cake, just like confetti. Even today, confetti cakes say “party” like nothing else. 5-hour Energy’s Confetti Craze energy shots taste like these classic birthday cakes, with a blend of “freshly baked confetti cake, smooth vanilla frosting, and a sprinkle of sweetness”—but they hit like caffeine.

Limited Availability

Confetti Craze is a limited-edition flavor, perfect for getting through a busy day or turning an average weeknight into a cause to celebrate. The company strategically released the new product in August, in which more Americans celebrate birthdays than any other month. “[It] tastes like a party [and] works like 5-hour Energy,” said Leah Key, President of Living Essentials, LLC, parent company of 5-hour Energy. We launched Confetti Craze in August because it’s the most birthday-filled month of the year, and this flavor is our gift to the spotlight-stealers and everyday party-starters who want to celebrate life’s big and small moments with energy.”

Ingredients

Each extra strength Confetti Craze energy shot has 230 mg of caffeine, equal to a premium 12 oz coffee, as well as 40 mg of niacin and vitamin B6 and 500 mcg of vitamin B12. Like other 5-hour Energy flavors, it’s a quick and effective, sugar-free, zero-calorie energy boost that goes down in seconds and lasts hours.

Other Specialty Flavors

5-hour Energy has more than 15 signature flavors and regularly rolls out limited-edition flavors, like the recent Spicy Cinco de Mango, made with habanero chilis. Earlier this year, the company released the limited-time 1-hour Energy in its signature Grape flavor as part of a Daylight Savings Time marketing initiative. 5-hour Energy’s other unique flavors include Glow Motion, Ultimate Citrus, Pineapple Charge, and Hawaiian Breeze.
