The Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced that digital Social Security cards will be available starting this summer. Americans can access their Social Security number (SSN) online by logging into their “My Social Security” account. The new digital card will enable users to view their SSN on a mobile device or computer securely.
This will be helpful if someone loses their physical card or is unable to have it with them. They can obtain their number instantly without having to visit an SSA office or wait for a replacement card to arrive in the mail. This change should make it easier for older adults, who often need their Social Security number (SSN) for financial matters, retirement planning, and healthcare.
The SSA is introducing digital Social Security numbers (SSNs) for several reasons. Many of the current Social Security cards in use are outdated and lack modern security features. They can also be easily damaged.
There are growing concerns about identity theft, as a stolen SSN can be used to open credit accounts or file fake tax returns. Additionally, many Americans now expect to access services securely online. To use the digital SSN feature, you will need a “My Social Security” account.
If you don’t have one, you can create an account using your name, birthdate, Social Security number (SSN), and address.
