Former President Donald Trump has accused Vice President Kamala Harris of stealing his idea to eliminate federal taxes on tips. Harris announced the policy during a recent campus rally in Las Vegas. Trump took to social media, writing, “Kamala Harris, whose ‘Honeymoon’ period is ENDING, just copied my NO TAXES ON TIPS Policy.
The difference is, she won’t do it; she just wants it for Political Purposes!”
At the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, Harris promised to fight for working families, stating, “When I am president, we will continue our fight for the working families of America, including to raise the minimum wage and eliminate taxes on tips for service and hospitality workers.”
Harris received support from labor unions, including Local 226, which represents service and hospitality workers in Las Vegas. Her announcement was welcomed by many in these industries. However, the idea of eliminating taxes on tips is not new.
In 2012, former Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul called it an “outrage” that service workers had to pay taxes on tips.
