Wildfire near Murrieta scorches 72 acres

A wildfire that erupted Friday on the northeast side of Murrieta scorched 72 acres and posed a threat to homes. The “Alamos Fire” was reported at 3:22 p.m. near the intersection of Los Alamos Road and Ruth Ellen Way, according to Murrieta Fire & Rescue. Evacuation orders were promptly issued for an area bounded by Via Mira Mosa to the north, Keller Road to the south, Interstate 215/Whitewood Road to the east, and Winchester and Briggs roads to the west. By 6 p.m., these orders were downgraded to warnings. The Murrieta Community Center, located at 41810 Juniper Street, opened as a care and reception center for displaced residents.

While the exact number of displaced residents is unknown, Murrieta Fire & Rescue reported no structural losses. At 5:30 p.m., firefighters halted the blaze’s spread, although full containment had not yet been achieved. There are reports that electrical transmission lines were damaged near Vista Murrieta High School.

Since the detection of the Argenta Creek wildfire (N71058) on July 18, crews and resources within the Southeast Fire Centre have been working hard towards containment.
