Like any great founder, you want to present your vision to the best of your ability. But what does the term vision mean to you? Do you think of your wildest dreams? Or something else? Having a great business vision is crucial to any startup.

As your startup grows, investors will ask you what the overall goal of your business is. Or, what is the vision or the big picture that you see? These investors want to feel excited about what your company can do. You need to sell them and yourself on it, because if you aren’t buying it, then they won’t buy it.

How Does a Vision Work?

The vision of any great founder should be one that describes exactly what you are providing. It needs to be inspiring and able to help lots and lots of people. Plus, it should be making you a lot of money.

The trick to having that vision be as great and wonderful as you imagine it in your mind is simply one thing.

All great founders give their vision inevitability.

All Aboard the Trend Train

Many are sold on the idea that the great businessmen of the world like Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, and Elon Musk are mind-readers who know exactly what the public needs. Actually, these businessmen are doing nothing special other than paying attention to trends. As they pay attention to these trends they are figuring out where it will be in the next five to ten years and use the logical steps to get there.

In order to have a vision, one does not need to be a prophet, you just need to be you. If you have a dream, you have a vision. All you have to do is connect your vision to the business world and see how it needs to fit in.

However, trends can last a very long time, even up to and over a decade. So, why is the present the best time to create your startup? Because it is the advancements in our technology and our livelihoods that enable success.

Writing Out Your Vision

Have you ever heard of a vision statement? A vision statement is similar to that of a business plan. However, you need to address what the company’s values are as well as how to define what your company is and what your future goals are.

Companies typically switch over to focus on the mission statement. But, a vision statement is a useful tool to help create the identity of your corporation and inspire your workforce.

For Microsoft, their early vision statement was “a computer on every desk and in every home.” Years later, they succeeded quite well as one of the top computer companies in the world.

Both the vision and mission statements are important to your workplace, it is the vision statement that serves as inspiration, and motivation, and is seen as a guiding light.

How to Write Your Vision

When creating a grand vision for your business, you need to determine who will assist you in sharing that vision.

For a smaller business, it is best to ask everyone who works there. That way, there is a sense of pride and accomplishment. But, when it comes to a larger operation, it is best to be picky about what employees you want to hear from. However, you need to still make sure that a diverse range of voices is heard.

The Company Guidebook

Most companies have a guidebook that has all the rules and guidelines for their business. Much of the time, they have the company’s vision in there. If you already have a job, look at their employee manual for what they say their vision is. This can help you down the line when you have your own business.

Get Inside Help

You may be the leader of the company, but you are not the only employee. Leaders need all the help they can get, otherwise, they can’t do what they need to do for their business to survive.

In that case, ask for the assistance of your workers. Ask them about the common themes of the workplace and what it means to them. Try ideas like visual branding or workshops to get people motivated and brainstorming.

Short, Sweet, and to the Point

You don’t need to write a manifesto for what your vision is going to be. Your business describes you and who you are. You have to put a lot into a business to make it work. What you put into it, is what you are going to get out of it.

Being a great founder means that you have a dream and are able to convey it in writing form. This is to help all to understand what you want to do with your company.

Ensuring a vision statement shows that you want this business around for a long time and you as a great founder with a vision.
