Reese and Johnson launch Wealth Playbook in Baltimore

by / ⠀News / May 19, 2025

Angel Reese, the former LSU Tigers star, has launched a new initiative called the Wealth Playbook in collaboration with NBA legend Magic Johnson. The program aims to teach high school seniors in Baltimore essential financial literacy skills. The Wealth Playbook is a joint venture between the Angel Reese Foundation, the Magic Johnson Foundation, and Pull Up Neighbor, a marketing and advertising firm specializing in community outreach.

The program started its inaugural session at St. Frances Academy, Reese’s former high school, in partnership with financial powerhouse Merrill Lynch. During the session, students learned about budgeting, credit, and how to take control of their financial futures.

According to a statement from the organization, the room was filled with knowledge and purpose. Reese recently completed her rookie season in the WNBA and has been vocal about giving back to her local community.

Reese and Johnson’s financial initiative

Despite facing a setback due to an injury that cut her season short, the 23-year-old athlete remains focused on positively impacting both on and off the court. Reese’s commitment to her former high school is evident through her recent donation of $12,000 to support a girls’ team star’s tuition fees. She believes that the Wealth Playbook is not just a program but the start of a movement.

Magic Johnson’s involvement in the initiative brings valuable business acumen. The NBA legend has built an empire spanning entertainment venues, food service companies, and real estate investments, and has committed significant resources to urban communities. The Wealth Playbook aims to address the critical gap in financial education that often leaves young adults unprepared for the economic realities they face after graduation.

By partnering with experts from Merrill Lynch, the program offers professional financial education directly to students who might otherwise lack access to these critical skills. Reese and Johnson’s efforts to empower Baltimore’s youth with the financial tools they need to build a prosperous future are timely and commendable. The Wealth Playbook has the potential to impact the lives of the students it reaches.
