When Was YouTube Created and Details of Its Inception

For those who don’t know much about when was YouTube created, the idea behind YouTube when it was launched back in 2005 was pretty simple. Its main purpose was to create a platform where anyone could post video content without any restrictions. The founders wanted the platform for users to upload, share and view content easily.

And look how far it has come! People now make a living via the platform as they sell ad space. They can also send by creating and uploading video content on YouTube.

So when was YouTube created? On February 14th, 2005. Yes, Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim created the platform on Valentine’s Day. Interestingly, all three were former employees of PayPal.

And pretty much like all other startups, this one too began its journey in makeshift offices in a garage. Who could have thought that what started as a small idea in California would soon take the digital world by storm and change the fate of video content forever?

The Story of YouTube and How It All Began

The three founders knew each other as they were working together in PayPal. There isn’t really any elaborate story behind the idea. As per the founders, they first thought of it in 2004 at a dinner party in San Francisco.

The three of them felt really frustrated because they found it really challenging to find and share videos online. They thought the process could be simpler. Plus, they felt neglect for video content on the Internet.

Yes, people collected video clips on their phones. But they really did not have a convenient way to share these clips with everyone. And that’s how the idea of YouTube was born.

The beta version of YouTube was uploaded on the Internet in May 2005. One of the founders posted the first video within a month. It was titled “Me at the Zoo” and was 19 seconds long.

The clip was basically footage of Karim at the Same Diego Zoo, where he was talking about elephants and their trunks. And thus began an incredible journey.

The Rise of YouTube

No later than three months after this first video, YouTube generated one million views! A Nike ad went viral, and things changed forever!

This viral video featured Ronaldinho, a Brazilian soccer player who received a pair of Golden Boots. The noteworthy point is that Nike was among the first major brands that realized the promotional potential of YouTube.

There was no turning back for YouTube then. In November, Sequola Capital, a venture capital firm, invested a whopping $3.5 million in the business. Another former employee of PayPal, Roelof Botha, also joined the board of directors of this new platform.

Things didn’t stop here. Sequola and Artis Capital Management invested an additional $8 million. The website witnessed incredible growth by 2006, which made it clear that the platform was here to stay!

If you think about when the founders created YouTube, you realize it wasn’t that long ago. And the three friends who came up with the idea couldn’t have imagined that it would all become so big.

What started off as an innocent idea has now transformed into so much more. These days, if you want to become famous, you don’t have to be a star in music, TV, or movies. YouTube stars are just as popular.

And the most incredible thing is, YouTube stars come from such varied professions. Here, you will find gamers, makeup artists, painters, chefs, and so much more! Do you know people even simply post their everyday life on YouTube, and thousands of people watch it? Sounds amazing, doesn’t it?
