Three years ago, Justin Mihaly was sleeping in his car outside expensive houses in Austin, Texas. Today, his Elite Coaching Academy is on pace to become the first $20 million per year online fitness mentorship in the world. Not exactly the typical entrepreneur journey.
The climb from rock bottom to seven-figure CEO sounds like something out of a movie, but Mihaly’s story is backed by numbers that are hard to ignore. In 2025 alone, ECA has mentored 8 coaches past $80K annually, 21 past $50K, and 48 past $20K per year – income levels that most fitness professionals never reach.
What’s striking about Mihaly is how he talks about those homeless months. “I wasn’t just broke,” he remembers. “I was running online coaching sessions from my laptop in parking lots, trying to figure out how to help clients when I couldn’t even help myself.”
The Turning Point
The thing is, Mihaly’s background didn’t scream “future millionaire.” Sure, he had academic training in exercise physiology and was making waves in bodybuilding circles. But the transition from struggling coach to industry leader happened during what he calls his “darkest period.”
Research shows that over 80% of successful entrepreneurs today started from humble beginnings, with determination and resilience being key factors in their eventual success. Mihaly’s story fits this pattern perfectly.
“The worst part wasn’t being homeless,” Mihaly said during a recent interview. It was knowing I had this knowledge about helping people transform their bodies and health, but I couldn’t scale it properly.
The breakthrough came when Mihaly realized most fitness coaches were stuck in the same trap. He started developing what would eventually become the MARCH Method, which translates complex biochemistry into practical client results.
Building Authority Through Competition
Here’s where it gets interesting though. While most entrepreneurs focus solely on business development, Mihaly took a different approach. He continued competing and coaching at the highest levels of bodybuilding, earning Olympia qualifications and multiple NPC Overall Champion titles.
Elite Coaching Academy has produced 21 IFBB Pro Cards, 10 IFBB Pro Titles, and multiple Top 10 Olympia finishes. In bodybuilding, where earning professional status requires winning qualifying amateur competitions, these achievements provide serious credibility.
I needed people to know this wasn’t just another business coaching program,” Mihaly explained. “When coaches see that we’re producing actual IFBB Pros, not just making money claims, it changes everything.”
The dual focus positioned ECA differently in a crowded market. The global coaching industry is expected to reach $7.21 billion in 2025, with fitness coaching representing a significant segment.
Personal Stakes Drive Vision
What you get when talking to Mihaly is someone who’s personally invested in the outcome. This isn’t just about business metrics for him.
“At 22, I had nothing but a laptop and a belief that science could change lives,” he said. “Today, I lead a company that blends medicine, biology, and business at levels most people thought impossible.”
Earlier this year, he launched ECA Medical, partnering with doctors to teach root-cause medicine to fitness coaches. The expansion comes as the global digital health market is projected to reach billions by 2025.
Looking ahead, Mihaly sees ECA setting the global standard for coaching education. “I want ECA Medical to become the authority for health-driven coaching,” he said. “Success for me means creating coaches who out-execute doctors in health and out-earn agencies in business.”
The journey from homeless to potential $20 million business owner took just three years. Whether that timeline can be replicated remains to be seen, but Mihaly’s combination of competitive credibility, medical partnerships, and proven systems suggests he’s built something sustainable.
