The Importance of Building Your Online Brand

by / ⠀Personal Branding Startup Advice / April 9, 2022

magnifyBuilding your online brand is becoming more important every single day and the scariest thing is that the web as we know it is still very young.  The information that is you can find online is becoming more in depth, more detailed and even more invasive.  You would be hard pressed to find someone that you could not Google and get some kind of search result for whether its a column from their high school sports days, that day they used twitter or their Facebook profile.

Why does this matter???

There are two reasons this matters:

  1. You want to control what shows up when someone Googles you online. Leaving this up to fate is like playing with fire. Every day we hear how employers are Googling prospective employees. For some people this is no problem as they have built an online brand and the results only enforce and reflect what they have on their resume. For others these results seriously hurt their chances as they either show some drunken party photos or even nothing…which when put against some one who spent the time building a reputation looks just as bad as that photo of you doing a keg stand.
  2. More importantly then simply managing what results show up when your name is Googled is taking charge and making a name for yourself. Everyday people are creating online brands and opening doors for themselves in any industry they want. Whether they are finding new job opportunities or carving a path of their own out they are doing it by simply taking the leap online. These people are finding out that they can do what they want in life and make money doing it. It just takes some motivation and the right knowledge to go at it and carve out your own niche online.
